DESCRIPTION OF THE STAGES

STAGE 1: Cornudella de Montsant – La Vilella Alta

Distance: 18,7km
Maximum altitude: 723m Minimum altitude: 314m
Difference: +1013m  –1222m

The route of this stage passes through spectacular places and we will enjoy wonderful views. We will climb the Camí de Cartoixans that will take us to La Morera de Montsant to descend to the Cartuja and the village of Escaladei, from where we will cross vineyards and forests until reaching La Viella Alta.

At this stage we will pass through the Hermitage of the Pietat of Escaladei.

STAGE 2: La Vilella Alta – Margalef

Distance: 21,4km
Maximum altitude: 912m    Minimum altitude: 154m
DIfference: +1573m -1552m

Leaving the Viella Alta, we will change slopes to go around Viella Alta, from where we will head to Cabacés, passing through the Cavaloca Bridge and the Coll de Cantacorbs. From Cabacés, we will head towards the Serrra Major passing through the village hermitages and once we reach Sant Salvador, we will descend to Margalef where we will finish the stage.

In this stage we will pass through the hermitages of Sant Roc and the Foia de Cabacés and Sant Salvador de Margalef.

STAGE 3: Margalef – Ulldemolins

Distance: 21,4km
Maximum altitude: 675m    Minimum altitude: 252m
DIfference: +1684m -1369m

This is the most leafy stage of all! During much of the tour, you will be accompanied by views over the Margalef reservoir and the Montsant River. Before arriving to the Fraguerau Gorge, a visit to the hermitage of Sant Bartomeu will be essential. On leaving the Congost, the path will take us to Ulldemolins, located in the middle of the Silent Valley, where we will rest until the next day.

In this stage we will pass through the hermitages of Sant Bartomeu and Sant Antoni d’Ulldemolins

STAGE 4: Ulldemolins – Cornudella de Montsant.

Distance: 17km
Maximum altitude: 1164m    Minimum altitude: 493m
DIfference: +1102m – 1249m

The stage of the summit! From Ulldemolins we will continue along the path to the Serra Major, passing through the famous Pi de la Carabasseta. After visiting the Mare de Deu, a small path will ascend to Roca Corbatera, the highest peak of Montsant, at 1164m. An ideal place to sit for a few minutes to enjoy the silence and spectacular views.

From here, we will begin the descent towards Sant Joan del Codolar, going through the Cave of the Moloner and the Santa Cova.

The last stretch of this stage passes through Camí de Cartoixans, wooden bridges and a stretch of road between margins of vineyards which will take us to Cornudella de Montsant.

In this stage we will pass through the hermitages of Santa Magdalena d’Ulldemolins, the Virgen de Montsant de La Morera and Sant Joan and Sant Joan Petit de Cornudella de Montsant.
